Letter: Sodomy Laws Aren’t Limited to Homosexual Acts

Homosexuality is not a felony. It is not illegal to be a homosexual in this state. The sodomy laws he refers to apply to everyone, male, female, gay and straight. Anal and oral sex are illegal in North Carolina no matter who performs them or in what combination, including married heterosexuals.

Since no one bothered to find out if the mom in the Pulliam case had engaged in either act and was therefore a felon, not just a woman who had deserted her children, we can safely assume the judgment that came from that trial was indeed based on speculation of conduct, as The Observer editorial surmised.
