Anti-Gay Bills

As expected, anti-gay activists have lined up a host of bills to restrict our rights even further. Speak out now!

HB 1054 – Introduced by Del. Albo (R-Springfield), this bill would make public sodomy a Class 6 felony when other forms of public sexual activity are a misdemeanor. Urge equal treatment under the law!

HJ 187 and SJ 91 – Del. McDonnell (R-Virginia Beach) and Sen. Cuccinelli (R- Centreville) respectively have introduced resolutions to urge the U.S. Congress to pass the Federal Marriage Amendment, which would amend the U.S. Constitution to bar marriage equality for gay and lesbian Americans.

HB 187—Del. Black (R-Sterling) introduced this bill that would rollback the Virginia Housing Development’s co-borrowers rule (supported unanimously this past July) to require that co-borrowers be related by blood, marriage or other custodial relationship.

HB 750 – Introduced by Del. Marshall (R- Manassas) this bill would provide that the state of Virginia is under no constitutional or legal obligation to recognize civil unions, marriages or any other domestic partner arrangement performed or acknowledged in other states.

GLBT Friendly Bill

HB 1016 – Introduced by Del. Dillard (R- Fairfax) this bill would allow private employers in Virginia to offer health insurance to any household member of the employee, if they so choose. Currently, most small and mid-size companies are not able to offer their employees benefits packages they would like to.
