About GLAPN

The Gay and Lesbian Archives of the Pacific Northwest (GLAPN) was formed in October 1994 by community-based historians to preserve the local history of our community.

GLAPN members are involved in many activities that promote a greater awareness and understanding of our long history — including gathering oral histories, processing collections, and doing independent research.

One of the best ways to gather our history is to interview members of the community and record their stories. While we are interested in a person's entire life, we are especially interested in their experiences as a gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender person living in the Pacific Northwest.

We have several collections from GLBT organizations and individuals, and we encourage organizations to preserve their board minutes, correspondence, newsletters and flyers — then donate them to GLAPN.

Our oral histories and collections are housed at the Oregon Historical Society in Portland, which is open to the public. GLAPN is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization.
